VIFOR Overview
Once operational, the VIFOR wind farm will be one of Europe’s largest onshore wind farms. Located south-east of the city of Buzău in Romania, the project will include 72 latest generation wind turbines and will generate more than 461MW. VIFOR is currently under construction and is planned to be completed within 18 months.
It is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2025
Leading the energy transition
The VIFOR wind farm is a utility-scale project which will provide renewable power for commercial and industrial users across Romania and Central and Southeastern Europe, helping them access a more secure, stable and clean energy supply.
Flagship project
Once operational, VIFOR will be one of the largest onshore wind farms in Europe. It will play a significant role in reducing Romania’s dependence on fossil fuels, enhancing the country’s energy security and improving air quality.

Economic Impact
VIFOR will employ up to 300 people during the construction phase and will create multiple other economic benefits in Buzău County and beyond.
Sustainable Legacy
VIFOR will leave a lasting, positive legacy. We intend for the project to set a standard for the responsible development of renewable energy projects in South Eastern Europe which others will be inspired to follow.
Project Development Timeline
The VIFOR wind farm project will comprise four main phases, the first two of which has already been completed.
Phase 1 of 4
Land rights permitting
100% of the land rights have been secured through joint-venture agreements with the local authorities of the communes where the site is located. All the necessary approvals and permits have also been obtained and Vifor is ready to build.

Estimated Operations Start: End of 2025
Phase 4 of 4
Operation, maintenance and monitoring
The VIFOR wind farm will be operational for up to 35 years providing more than 1,300 GWh of electricity annually.
ETA: To begin End of 2025
VIFOR Sites
VIFOR is a single site, covering a total area of 2,869 hectares, but comprises five sub projects as it covers the administrative areas of five local communes in Buzău County.
