Vifor’s core environmental impact

In addition to its contribution to the energy transition in Romania, we will ensure that VIFOR supports flourishing and sustainable ecosystems in Buzău County.

Clean Energy

An important contribution to Romania’s clean energy transition.

More Capacity

Generating enough electricity to power more than 270,000 homes.

Zero Emissions

Facilitating the pursuit of net-zero emissions for corporate users.

Air Quality

Making a tangible contribution to improving air quality in Romania.

Powering Progress and Sustainability

Once operational, VIFOR will be one of the largest onshore wind farms in Europe, generating enough clean energy to power more than 270,000 homes and avoiding approximately 180,000 tonnes of CO2e annually. For Romania, this is about more than just reducing emissions. It’s about energy security, reducing energy bills and enhancing the competitiveness of local businesses.

Vifor’s renewable energy will be sold via power purchase agreements (PPAs). PPAs offer companies many things: long-term certainty about the energy price they will pay, peace of mind over the security of supply, and an emission reduction guarantee which can help them meet their net zero targets. PPAs also help build renewable energy plants. The companies that sign a PPA with Rezolv to secure electricity from VIFOR will not just be benefitting from the energy transition, they will be tangibly contributing to it.

Clean energy that protects and restores nature

The Vifor wind farm will help improve air quality and achieve a positive outcome for biodiversity

Benefits to wildlife

Rezolv’s sustainability strategy has been built on industry best practice and aligns with international standards, including the Equator Principles and the International Finance Corporation (IFC)’s Performance Standards on Environmental and Social Sustainability.

We strive to ensure that each of our energy projects benefits the environment and supports flourishing and sustainable ecosystems. We focus on using our resources efficiently and sustainably, bringing to life projects that have a positive impact on biodiversity.

As standard, we carefully consider and mitigate the effects on wildlife, habitats, and ecosystems to achieve no net loss of biodiversity. In parallel, we identify and proactively explore opportunities to deliver nature positive outcomes for biodiversity during the lifecycle of our projects.

Benefits to health

Air pollution is a major health issue, causing and aggravating respiratory and cardiovascular disease. One particular area of concern is exposure to harmful concentrations of fine particulate matter (PM2.5). In 2021, the World Health Organization recommended that, long-term, people should not be exposed to more than 5 micrograms of PM2.5 per cubic metre. The most recent air quality assessments from the European Environment Agency rated nine out of the 19 Romanian cities that were evaluated as “poor” in terms of air quality, meaning that PM2.5 levels were over 15 micrograms per cubic metre. This has a direct impact on human health.

Electricity production from wind turbines does not pollute the air we breathe. VIFOR will help lower PM2.5 concentrations in Romania and therefore reduce the health issues connected to air pollution.
