About Phase 1:

The first phase of the Vifor wind farm will install 192MW in capacity and is scheduled to be commissioned in December 2025. The development, which is located in Luciu Commune,  includes the construction of a 400/33 kV transformer substation and the installation of 30 Vestas V162 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 6.4 MW and a tower height of 166 metres.

The project also involves extensive infrastructure work, including power grid connections, access roads (including in Smeeni, Gheraseni and Costesti), culverts and the construction of two bridges over the Calmatui River.

Work completed to date:

Significant progress has been made on the project, with over 30 kilometres of new roads constructed, all of which are accessible to the public. Nine of the 30 wind turbine foundations have already been completed and are ready for installation. The two bridges over the Calmatui River – located at Caragele and Udați Manzu – have also been completed.

In addition, eight pylons have been erected for the 400 kV overhead power line. The foundations and the installation of equipment for the 33/400 kV substation have also been finished.

Next steps:

Next steps for Phase 1 include the transport of components along the Buzău–Maxenu–Smeeni–Luciu route, followed by the completion of the remaining turbine foundations and the installation of the wind turbines themselves.

About Vifor Phase 2

The second phase of the Vifor wind farm will add a further 42 turbines, increasing the project’s capacity to 461MW. The turbines will be situated in the communes of Smeeni, Gherăseni, Costești and Țintești (21 in Smeeni, 7 in Gherăseni, 7 in Costești and 7 in Țintești).

Phase 2 will also include the construction of power grid infrastructure and access roads, as well as road bridges and footbridges to support both construction and long-term maintenance.

Construction of Phase 2 is expected to begin in the autumn of 2025, with the full project scheduled for commissioning in April 2027.
